Safety Tips
- If you smell gas
- Natural and propane gas are odorless. For your safety, a chemical has been added which smells like rotten eggs. This odor is for your protection.
- If you suspect a leak, check the pilot lights or see if a burner has been left partially on. If you cannot find the source, open windows and doors to disperse the gas and call 911.
- If the odor is extremely strong, leave the building at once and call 911 from a neighbors home. DO NOT use your phone or light any matches. Do not operate any electrical switches or devices or pull any plugs from outlets. Any of these actions could ignite the gas that may have accumulated.
- Remember that natural gas is lighter than air and will find a way out of a building. Propane gas is heavier than air and will linger low around the floor area.
- Flammable liquids
- Gasoline and other flammable liquids should never be used indoors, and should be stored in an approved container, away from children
- Never use gasoline as a cleaner
- Do not use flammable liquids indoors or in the same room as a gas appliance or other source of ignition.
- Keep gasoline ONLY in approved containers, and assure that they are sealed tightly. Do not use plastic or glass containers for storing gasoline.
- When filling gasoline containers always leave room at the top for expansion.
- Keep all flammable liquids out the reach of children and talk to them about the related dangers.
